I had never been to this body of water. It seems to have a bit of everything: pads, wood, rock, clear water, and stained water.

Fishing was a little slow but better than I had expected with rain and thunderstorms in and around all day long. Water temps were in the mid 60s and our best luck was had throwing soft plastics on well defined inside weedlines. We caught about a combined total of about a dozen bass (both largemouth and smallmouth) with the biggest around 2.5 pounds.

We'll see what this body of water can really do on next Sunday's tournament.

Coon Lake Fishers of Men Tourney

June 4
We finally had a week of warm weather. Water temperatures were in the mid to upper 60s. It was mostly cloudy with early afternoon rain. We struggled to catch anything bass of size (5 bass 7.79 pounds). Most of our fish came on dropshotting MG Lures 3.5" paddletail worms in 6-9 feet of water.

Apparently the bass were either deeper or shallower. It took 15+ pounds to win it and 12+ pounds to cash a check out of the 49 boat tournament.

Balsam Lake Fishers of Men Tourney

May 21
Balsam Lake had warmed up to 54 degrees from the previous week. Fishing continued to be tough if not even tougher. We caught on 14+" bass on a Rat-L-Trap through cabbage in 7 feet of water. Our big fish came on a MG Lures Pachinko deadsticking in about 3 feet of water. We had a couple 13 7/8" fish that would have helped out greatly.

In the end we finished 17th out of 47 with 2 bass 5.23 pounds. On tournament day water temperature was about 50 and the water was very clear.

I managed to deadstick the MG Lures Rhino Beetle (black blue flake) for 3 bass. The key was letting in sit amongst the scattered weeds. Caught my final bass on Rapala's new X Rap suspending jerkbait (orange).
